People are always asking you what you want to be and achieve, what your goals are, your dream life, etc. This is so infuriating for young people trying to navigate the world. Now this isn’t because we don’t have direction, or because we don’t have any motivation or goals. Rather, its because we are given 10 million possible life paths that we could potentially follow. I know for certain that I feel so uncomfortable telling someone that has it all figured out that I don’t have it all figured out. But why is this? Why is it not acceptable to not know, to say “I’m not sure”? See the thing is, I know myself well enough to know that what I want now may not be what I want in ten years, or maybe even one. However, society does not accept this answer. Instead, I will keep telling people that I want to be a financial advisor (I haven’t wanted to do this since I was 15 years old.)
How is someone supposed to pick what they want to do for the rest of their life? I have so many dreams and passions, that it is hard for me to settle into one niche for the rest of my life. Sure there are things I know I probably could do for the rest of my life, but I want to live my life to the fullest. I don’t want okay, I want something that is truly going to fulfill me. This has always been so tormenting for me as I contemplate if I want to pursue my passion for psychology, fitness and health, philosophy, business and finance, law, etc. I thought that I had to pick one thing for the rest of my life. That was until I realized that your life gets to be whatever you want it to be in that moment. If you want to change career paths, its just that simple. It is okay to not know what or who you want to be for the rest of your life, because you don’t know what experiences you will have in the future.
Every experience that you have shapes who you are. The most beautiful thing about this, is that you get to choose how it shapes you. Experience is knowledge and knowledge is key. If you treat every experience as a learning tool, you could become everything that you have ever wanted. The only thing standing in your way is yourself. This is why having no direction is such a beautiful thing. When you are open to new experiences and knowledge, then you learn more about yourself and the world around you. We should always be learning and growing, and if we get stuck in this routine fixed life, we will never grow or become our potential. Every day that the sun comes up, is another day that we can reach our potential. This is just my love letter to all of you that it is okay to not know where your life is headed. In the end none of us know where our life is headed, some people just believe they do (they don’t). Stay open-minded and never miss an opportunity to grow by being in your own way. Stay lost and curious loves <3
